and diazepam-ketamine on arterial blood pressure and blood gases in 12 dogs, Onl J Vet Res., 4:21-29, 2000. The effects
of xylazine-ketamine intramuscular (XK) and diazepam
(IV)-ketamine (DK) administration on arterial blood pressure, blood gases,
respiratory rate and temperature were compared in two groups of 6 dogs at 15,
30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes. Increase/decrease = P< 0.05: Mean heart and
respiratory rates increased at 15 minutes in the DK group, but declined in the
XK group. Mean arterial blood pressure declined in the XK group, but
increased in the DK group at 30 minutes and continued higher in the DK group at
30 to 120 minutes. PaO2 values were higher in the DK group 120 minutes after
administration. Rectal temperatures did not change significantly. This work
describes the effects of XK and DK on cardiorespiratory function in dogs.
