ABSTRACT
Pabla SS, PablaSS, Sajja
SP., PROLYZER : A
wireless application for physico-chemical
analysis of
protein sequences, Online J Bioinformatics, (2):
218-223, 2009. Recent
advances in processing capabilities of hand
held devices have prompted the development of wireless applications
that
alleviates the user from physical “wired” connectivity. Moreover, there
has
been an immense increase in internet connectivity speed of wireless
devices. A
new paradigm of bioinformatics applications that use both increased
processing
and connectivity abilities of these devices has promising potential.
PROLYZER
is one such application designed to calculate various Physico-chemical
properties [1] of a protein sequence. It acquires input protein
sequence from
GENBANK [5] database via the Genbank
Identification
number (gi number). It computes the
following
parameters: Total number of amino acids, Molecular formula, Atom count,
Molecular
weight, Grand average of hydropathicity
(GRAVY) [2],
Extinction Co-efficient [3] and Absorbance [4]. PROLYZER is supported
by any
wireless device which is MIDP2.0, CLDC1.0 and Java enabled. It uses
internet
connectivity for sequence procurement and local processing capacity for
performing calculations. The future prospects include development of
wireless
devices completely dedicated to run bioinformatics applications.
