Providencia vermicola isolated by RT-PCR and antibiotic resistance associated with diarrhea in cattle.

ABSTRACT

 

AlGburi NM., Providencia vermicola isolated by RT-PCR and antibiotic resistance associated with diarrhea in cattle, Onl J Vet Res., 27 (12) : 659-663, 2023. Sixty fecal samples were collected from cattle exhibiting severe diarrhea. Samples were inoculate into pepton water, incubated 24h at 37C, subcultured on McConkey blood agars 24h at 37 C. By microscopy, culture and biochemical tests we identified Providencia vermicola confirmed by PCR 16S rRNA gene with 100% homology. The isolate was tested for susceptibility to 10 antimicrobials by disk diffusion and found to be resistant to 5 of them. BAB812 strain was highly resistant to trimethoprim with sulfamethoxazole, polymyxin B, trimethoprim, tetracycline, neomycin and sulfafurazole whereas P.vermicola BAB813 strain exhibited high resistance to chloramphenicol, polymyxin B and tetracycline.
