ABSTRACT
Selk Ghaffari M, Massoudifard M,
Abdi M, Khorami N, Hosseni F., Uterine rupture in a cat associated with
femoral hernia, Onl J Vet Res 11(2):50-54, 2007. A 2 year old female
stray cat was admitted after being found recumbent, confused, and vomiting. On
palpation of the abdomen, freely movable masses were found. Physical
examination revealed a large swelling in the right femoral area. Abdominal
radiography demonstrated skeletal structures consistent with 3 fetuses in the
abdomen with 1 in the femoral area. Based on physical examination and
radiographic findings, a provisional diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and/or
uterine rupture with consequent femoral herniation by one of the fetuses was
made. During laparatomy, uterine rupture with
intra-abdominal displacement of the fetuses was observed with one located under
the skin of right femoral area. An ovario-hysterectomy
and surgical correction of the femoral hernia were performed. This may be a
first report of uterine rupture associated with herniation by a fetus to the
femoral area in felines.
