ABSTRACT

Moaddab SH, Siavosh Haghighi ZM, Tavanaeimanesh H., Urinary bladder displacement due to abdominal distention and straining in mares, Onl J Vet Res., 20(10):673-678, 2016.  Displacement of the urinary bladder in mares is a rare cause of dysuria. Displacement can occur by extrusion through a tear in the floor of the vagina or true prolapse with eversion of the bladder into the vestibule. Displacements are typically a consequence of repeated abdominal contractions or straining and are mostly associated with by excessive involuntary straining during or after  parturition, dystocia, colic due to small colon obstructions, rectal prolapsed and vaginitis, or perineal lacerations occurring during foaling. History, clinical signs and outcomes of 4 cases of bladder displacement with uterine torsion, colonic torsion, small colon foreign body and vaginal tear are described.

Key words: Urinary bladder, Eversion, rupture, straining, mare.
