ABSTRACT

Aissi A., Ovine cardiac compartments measured by ultrasonography and calipers, Onl J Vet Res., 29 (1): 10-13, 2025. Author describes reference ultrasonography (US) structure of 27 normal sheep hearts at slaughter. US was viewed through water at 25oC by sectorial transducer at 2 cm sent from right ventricle (RV) to determine thickness and space between left, right and intraventricular  ventricle walls (LV). Results were then compared with actual biometrical measurements by calipers. LV wall measured 20.69 ±2.628 by US and 19.2 ± 1.563mm by caliper, RV 8.10 ±2.138 and 7.6±1.957mm and LV, 18.93 ± 1.984 and 17.981±1.786mm, respectively. Findings  suggest LV was measured ~7%, RV ~6% and LV ~5% thicker by US compared with calipers.
