ABSTRACT
Ansari-Lari M,
Hosseini A, Gorjipour S, Farjani-Kish
G., Prevalence of Neospora caninum
and Toxoplasma gondii
antibodies in sheep, Onl J Vet Res., 18(5): 428-431, 2014. Toxoplasma gondii and
Neospora caninum are
two coccidian parasites with very similar structures and life cycles. Seroprevalence of N. caninum
and T. gondii in naturally exposed sheep
slaughtered for food, are reported. Blood samples were collected
from 90 female sheep from 15 flocks during slaughter. For serological examination
and detection of antibodies, commercial enzyme linked immunosorbent assay were used for
both parasites. The prevalence of
seropositive animals was 2.2% for T.
gondii and
1.1% for N. caninum. This is the first evidence of the N. caninum infection in sheep flocks
from Shiraz, Iran.
Keywords: Iran, Neospora caninum, Sheep,
