ABSTRACT

Al-Dabbagh SMK, Al-Rubaie HMA., Toxoplasma gondii in ovine blood and muscle exudate, Onl J Vet Res., 23 (4):299-306, 2019.  We collected blood for toxoplasma gondii from 139 female and 61 male mixed breed sheep aged < 1 years, 1-<3 years and ≥ 3 years) from different localities (Iraq) over 8 months. During the same period we collected muscle exudate (24h at 4C) for T gondii from another 48 slaughtered sheep over a period of 8 months. T gondii was confirmed by Indirect igG ELISA and Giemsa stain. In live sheep serum we found prevalence for T gondii of 13% but no relationship (P > 0.05) in blood with gender, age, locality or month/season. In muscle exudate we detected T gondii in ~19% by indirect IgG ELISA and by Giemsa stain ~27%. Our results confirm those of previous findings.

Key word: Toxoplasma gondii; prevalence; blood; meat juice; sheep.
