ABSTRACT
Chahardeh IS, Davoodi
J, Shabestari AB.,
Prevalence of Ixodidea spp on cattle in Iran, Onl J Vet
Res., 19(5): 357-362, 2015. Ticks (1389) collected from 759
cattle from 22 herds from 12
villages resulted in a prevalence rate of 60.4%. More ticks (75.5%) were found on female cattle mainly over
1yr age (54.3%) compared with male cattle (54%). In males, prevalence was 40%
but mostly in those under 6 months age. Infestation rates in females were higher than
males in all age groups (P˂0.05). Greater numbers of ticks were found on the udders
(24.9 %) and tails (24.7%). Tick species were identified as Hyalomma
anatolicum (14.3%), Hyalomma
excavatum (14.8%), Hyalomma
marginatum (21.2%), Rhipicephalus
sanguineus (10.5%), Rhipicephalus
bursa (9.7%), Boophilus anuulatus (12.1%) and Rhipicephalus turanicus (14.7 %).
Key words: Ixidid tick, cattle, Iran.
