ABSTRACT
Ghazaghi M, Makki FO, Nik HA, Omidi
A., Effect of Thyme (thymus vulgaris) and turmeric (curcuma longa) on feed and
body weight parameters in African blue-neck ostriches (struthio
camelus), Onl J Vet Res., 18(9): 778-784,
2014. Effects of thyme (thymus vulgaris) and turmeric (curcuma longa) on the performance of African
blue-neck ostriches (Struthio camelus) are described.
Groups of 5 three month male ostrich chicks
each were fed
dry 10gr/kg powdered turmeric,
thyme or both
in a basal growing diet. Controls were fed only basal
diet. Feed intake, body weight, weight gain and feed
conversion ratio were measured weekly
for 4 weeks. Results suggest that compared with
controls, thyme with turmeric or alone increased
intake or body weight.
Key words: Ostrich chicks;
Performance; Thyme; Turmeric.
