ABSTRACT

Movassagh MH, Karamibonari AR., Tetracycline residues in raw, pasteurized and UHT milk in Iran, Onl J Vet Res., 17(10):535-539, 2013. One hundred and fifty raw, pasteurized and UHT milk samples each were collected randomly from collection centers in Tabriz, Iran. Tetracycline residues were determined by enzyme receptor assay. 98.66% milk, 100% pasteurized and 99.33% UHT samples had tetracycline residues with values of 32.62±1.81, 20.89±0.75 and 48.74±2.91 µg/L, respectively. Residues values were higher (P < 0.01) in UHT samples compared with raw and pasteurized milk. The findings suggest that antibiotic withdrawal times are not being adhered to by Iranian dairy farmers. The results need to be confirmed by other tetracycline assay methods and 0 residue milk controls.
