Abbas MT, Hatif SA., Effect of season and
pregnancy, lambing, estrus and suckling on circulating prolactin, estradiol and
melatonin levels in 15 gazelles (Subgutturosa mareka), Onl J Vet Res., 22 (8):692-691, 2018. Jugular
blood was taken for plasma prolactin, estradiol and melatonin ELISA assays during pregnancy, lambing, estrus and suckling
in 15 gazelles (Subgutturosa
mareka) from March to November 2017 (Iraq). Prolactin levels were highest during Summer and lowest in Spring (P < 0.01), melatonin highest
in Autumn but lowest in Spring (P<0.01) and estradiol highest in September (P
< 0.01). Plasma prolactin at lambing was 3.570 ± 0.18, suckling 3.343 ± 0.17
(P < 0.01), pregnancy 0.420 ± 0.02 and estrus 0.846 ± 0.07ng/ml, plasma melatonin
7.16 ± 0.26, 8.89 ± 0.43, 12.91 ± 0.35 and 14.47 ± 0.17 pg/ml
being higher (P < 0.01) at estrus and lowest during pregnancy. Plasma estradiol
was higher (P < 0.01) at estrus (128.52 ± 7.19) and lower in pregnancy (108.87
± 6.62) and lambing (106.87 ± 4.89pg/ml). We found correlations (P<0.05) between plasma
prolactin and melatonin during pregnancy and estrus, and between prolactin and
estradiol and melatonin and estradiol at suckling.
