ABSTRACT

Khalilabadi YJ,  Dehghani SN,  Namazi F., Effects of bone marrow and hydroxyapatite activated heterologous platelet rich plasma on healing of stifle joint osteo-arthritis in rabbits, Onl J Vet Res., 20(8):526-532, 2016. Effects of heterologous platelet rich plasma (PRP) and its activation by hydroxyapatite (HA) and bone marrow (BM) cells on healing of cartilage in rabbit stifle joint is described. Left stifle joint trochlear ridge of the femur of groups of White New Zealand rabbits was exposed and 5x5 mm cartilage was curetted. The joint was then washed, and capsule and skin sutured. Twenty four hours after surgery, groups of 7 rabbits each received  1ml PRP in the joint, 1ml PRP and 0.2ml HA suspension, 1ml PRP or 0.2ml BM suspension. Controls were operated but not treated. Rabbits were then monitored 60 days, euthanized, and the distal part of femur harvested for pathology. Kruskal Wallis analysis suggested that rabbits given PRP with BM or HA had significant differences in cartilage thickness and pathology compared with controls.
