ABSTRACT
Moghaddam A, Sohrabi G, Kohram
H, Rahimi-Feyli P., Effect of 6 and 12 day intravaginal fluorogestone or progesterone
on estrus synchronization and sexual behavior in non-breeding ewes, Onl J Vet Res., 23(3):200-205, 2019. Groups
of 6 pluriparous Faharani 3-4
year old ewes weighing 41.24±1.6 kg each were inserted intravaginal sponges
with 40 mg fluorogestone acetate (FGA) for 6 or 12
days. Other ewes received 0.3g progesterone (CIDR) for 6 or 12 days. At withdrawal, all were injected IM 400IU equine
chorionic gonadotropin (eCG).
Following removal of hormone treatments, 4 Faharani rams
were allowed to mingle with ewes that had been treated and sexual behavior was
recorded. Anogenital sniffing and
head turning was more frequent than soliciting or scrotum sniffing in all ewes.
Non-firm standing, tail fanning and squatting was not observed. Sexual behavior in those implanted
progesterone for 6 days was similar to those implanted 12 days and therefore we
recommend 6-day only insertion.
Key Words: Farahani
ewe, sexual behavior, estrus synchronization, Raw Data Provided.
