Vet Res., 28 (7): 382-386, 2024. The serological prevalence of Marek’s disease (MD) virus in poultry in
Southern India is reported. Samples (955) were collected from Andhra Pradesh,
Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka from poultry farms and laboratories tested for
Marek antigen and antibodies by Agar Gel Immuno-diffussion
Test and Dot – ELISA. Virus: Marek’s vaccine Virus FC – 126 strain of HVT
serotype 2 and 3 CVI 988 and field antigens from tumors, spleen, liver, skin
and feather follicles and serum screened by AGID from broilers (80%) and
broilers 20% from 35 farms of which 16 exhibited paralysis, tumors and enlarged
spleens. We detected Marek’s in 58% layers and 24% in broilers.
