ABSTRACT
Moutab WQ, Aziz LM, Abdul-Rahman
IA, Properties of lipopolysaccharide from S259, virulence genes and antibiotic resistance
in Salmonella typhymurium
isolated from 201 patients with diarrhea, Onl J Vet
Res., 22 (11):1037-1047, 2018. Salmonella spp were isolated from stools
of hospital patients with diarrhea by standard and Vitec compact 2 methods.
Seven of 15 were identified as S. thyphimurium.
All strains possessed the invA gene (211pb), seven
STM4497 (523pb) and three the Stn (617pb)
gene. All isolates were highly resistant to rifampin and doxycycline 95-100%,
but sensitive to amikacine, imipenem, aztreonam and ciproflaxacin
(94-100%). However, isolate S259 was resistant to all antibiotics and had the 3
genes and was therefore used for LPS extraction. After partial purification the
concentration of LPS in phenolic phase was 435.57µg/ml and aqueous phase 381.76
µg/ml equivalent to MW 93325 and 71614 Dalton.
Key words: Extraction, Lipopolysaccharide, Salmonella
