ABSTRACT

Hamedi S, Mansourirad A., Effect of oral Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) on morphometrics and histology of rat testes, Onl J Vet Res., 19(10): 684-688, 2015. Five groups of ten rats each were gavaged distilled water (controls) or 1ml rosemary extract in 50, 100, 150, and 200 mg/kg daily for 28d. At necropsy, testis were fixed in 10% buffered formalin and assessed microscopically for morphometric and histological changes. Data was analyzed by one-way ANOVA test. Compared with controls, 50-100mg/kg Rosemary extract increased numbers of seminiferous and leydig cells whereas 150-200 mg/kg decreased seminiferous cells. Rosmarinus officinalis may improve fertility in rats at lower doses but may be deleterious at higher doses.

Key words: Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary), fertility, Rat.
