ABSTRACT
Pourjafar M, Badiei K, Ansari-Lari M, Hajimohammadi A, Ghane M, Samimi AS., Risk factors for equine herpes virus EHV-1
and EHV-4 in horses, Online J Vet Res., 17 (2): 106-112, 2013. Risk factors for equine herpes virus 1
(EHV-1) and 4 (EHV-4) were determined from
600 serum samples taken from Arab, Turkmen and Dareshuri
horses during a one year period. Control
samples were taken from healthy unvaccinated horses. Sex, age, background of
respiratory disease symptoms, body condition score (BCS) were included in the
analysis. Results showed that 30 EHV-1 and 15
EHV-4 of the 600 sera were positive and suggested that infection was associated
with sex, age and respiratory disease status.
Infection was 6-7 times more frequent in female horses and 10 to 13
times higher in those with respiratory disease or young.
Key words: Equine Herpes Virus; Indirect
ELISA; Risk factors; Seroprevalence.
