ABSTRACT
Saberi M, Akhtardanesh
B, Shojaeepour S., Bilateral perineal hernia with
urinary bladder retroflexion in a terrier dog, Onl J Vet Res., 18(6):
511-515 2014. An 8-year-old intact
male terrier dog in stupor with a history of bilateral progressive perineal
swelling, seizure, and anuria was presented for examination. The animal was
treated with bisacodyl suppositories 3 days later for
constipation. The owner then claimed that this treatment induced hematochezia, stranguria and perineal swelling. In plain radiography, the
urinary bladder was not visible in the abdominal cavity. Blood analysis showed
leukocytosis with elevated BUN and Creatinine. Conservative treatment with
peritoneal dialysis, anticonvulsant, antiemetic and antibiotic therapy was
commenced for herniorraphy but the dog then died with
severe uremic syndrome. Bisacodyle may have increased abdominal pressure to
cause bilateral
perineal hernia with urinary bladder retroflexion.
Key words:
Perineal hernia, Urinary bladder retroflection.
