ABSTRACT

Al-Samarai FR, Mohammad MH., Reference age and sex based serum biochemical values in indigenous goats (Iraq), Onl J Vet Res., 21(5):270-279, 2017.  Effect of age and sex on reference biochemical values in Iraqi indigenous goats are presented. Healthy goats (59 male and 61 female) aged 1 to 5 years were evaluated. Age was significantly correlated (P<0.05) with total protein, globulin, and low density lipoprotein (LDL) values whereas gender was related (P<0.05) with LDL and cholesterol values. Reference intervals (RI) determined by Reference Value Advisor revealed total protein values of 2.39–6.95, Albumin 1.19–4.61,  Globulin 0.10–4.57, Triglyceride 10.14–65.70, Cholesterol 66.30–142.51, High density lipoprotein (HDL) 11.38–58.44, Very low lipoprotein (VLDL) 2.04–25.13 and LDL 34.73–132.47g/dl. Age and gender need to be considered when measuring blood biochemical parameters in these goats

Key words: Biochemical reference values, reference value advisor, Iraqi indigenous goats.
