ABSTRACT
Mahmoudi T, Rezaei M, Saberi
M., Acute leptospirosis (Leptospira Pomona) in a
Great Dane, Onl J Vet Res., 18(8): 631-635,
2014. A
year old male Great Dane dog presented with a
history of lethargy, vomiting, shivering, reluctance to move, lameness and
generalized muscle tenderness. Clinical examination revealed dehydration,
tachypnea, poor capillary perfusion, Icterus, widespread petechiae
in mucous
membranes, and epistaxis. Hematologic investigations showed leukocytosis
with a left shift, thrombocytopenia, anemia, mild increase in serum bilirubin
concentration and serum creatine kinase activity. No
abnormality was detected in urinalysis except bilirubinuria.
Serology was performed by MAT and considered positive for L. pomona. Three weeks later,
diagnosis of leptospirosis was confirmed by fourfold enhancement in MAT titer.
The findings suggest that serovar L. pomona should be considered for canine leptospira
vaccines.
