ABSTRACT
Loh TC, Foo HL, Ramli
M, Tan BK: Effect of Dietary Chromium Picolinate on Abdominal fat and Lipid Metabolism of
Broilers, Onl J Vet Res., 6:53-58, 2002. Abdominal fat and blood lipid concentrations were determined in 280
broilers randomly fed 0ppm (controls), 150ppm and 300ppm chromium picolinate supplement. Plasma triacylglycerol concentration
and abdominal fat/body weight values were lowered (P < 0.05) by feeding the
supplement whereas plasma protein, total cholesterol, cholesteryl ester, free
cholesterol, phospholipid and very low-density lipoprotein concentrations did
not change significantly. The results suggest that chromium picolinate
may alter lipid metabolism, and reduce VDLD particle size and abdominal fat.
KEY-WORDS: chromium picolinate,
blood lipids, abdominal fat, broilers.
