Histology of fibrous tunic corneo-scleral layer of Pelecanus conspicillatus (Pelican), Onl J Vet Res., 18(10):
790-795, 2014. Microstructure of the
outer layer of the eyes of 6 healthy mature Pelecanus conspicillatus pelicans is described using standard histological techniques and
stains. The cornea had distinct dermal and scleral components. The sclera also
had distinct episcleral and a
scleral zones. The outer layer of the episclera
was composed of connective fibers loosely attached to the sclera proper. The
inner layer of the sclera consisted of dense connective tissues with one
cartilaginous parts continuing over the oraserrata.
