Gulf and Oman sea are large marine ecosystems that
require accurate characterization and classification. Morphometric-meristic
data determined by radiography of 11 species from Serranidae, Lutjanidae, Sparidae,
Carangidae, Platycephalidae
families of Persian Gulf and Oman sea fishery
resources is described. Morphometric measurements nearest to 0.01cm and weight
0.01 g. Length-weight fins were examined for hard, ridged, strong, thick, sharp and the soft or flexible type with branching end.
Meristic measurements vertebrae were counted from radiographic images and stereo microscope for counting fin
rays. Scale types were deracinated to remove fat, and cleared and
examined microscopically.
Results indicated 22-26 catenoid scaled actinopterygian spine vertebrates. Fish vertebrae and biometrical properties suggested family similarity in
orange-spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides), dusky tail grouper (Epinephelus
bleekeri), brown spotted grouper (Epinephelus chlorostigma),
big eye croaker (Pennahia macrophthalmus), tiger tooth croaker (Otolithes rubber), crimson snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus),
yellowfin seabream (Acanthopagrus latus),
silver seabream (Acanthopagrus
cuvieri), black pomfret
(Parastromateus niger),
malabar trevally (Carangoides
malabaricus) and spotfin
flathead (Grammoplites suppositus).
