ABSTRACT

Skinner-Harris BL, Williams AM., Normative Hematological Values of Captive Grey-Necked Owl Monkeys (Aotus lemurinus griseimembra), Onl J Vet Res., (1) :51-54, 2008. To assess the physiologic and pathologic conditions of captive animals, it is important to know normal blood values for individual species. Unfortunately, few papers on hematological values in owl monkeys have been published and do not include data from wild-caught animals that were unanesthetized1,2. Whole blood samples from 43 captive, unanesthetized  Aotus lemurinus griseimembra (A. l. griseimembra) were analyzed to determine reference ranges and the effect of age and sex on normal blood values. Statistically significant age-related differences (P<0.05) were found in the lymphocyte and monocyte percentages. No statistically significant difference in values was found when hematological values were analyzed by sex.

Key words: hematological value, nonhuman primate, aotus monkey, owl monkey, captive.
