ABSTRACT
Goodarzi N., Morphometric reference measurements for
kidneys in Angora goats, Onl J Vet Res., 19(11): 762-768, 2015. Morphometric measurements from 12 Markos Angora goat kidneys,
cortex, medulla and renal pelvis are described.
Volumes of both kidneys were estimated by Cavalieri’s
and immersion methods. Mean weight of the
right kidney was 66.62 ± 0.2g and left 64.45 ± 0.12g. Volumes of the right and left kidneys determined by
immersion (Archimedes) were 64.25 and 61.28ml, and by Cavalieri’s
method, 64.31 and 61.75ml. Right
kidney cortex was 64.67 medulla 32.72 and renal pelvis 2.61ml
whereas left kidney cortex was 64.03,
medulla 32.55 and pelvis 1.04ml. To correct for reference trap, densities were changed to absolute quantities by
multiplying them by the reference space volume. The coefficient of error (CE)
was < 5% for cortex and medulla and 6.12% for renal pelvis. There was no
statistically significant difference in any measurement between any value or
right and left kidneys.
