Singh SP, Khan F Mishra BN, Genomic
prediction for T lymphocyte epitotes on Plasmodium falciparum (Malaria). Online J Bioinformatics,
7 (2) : 69-73, 2006. A
barrier to vaccination against malaria is the life cycle of Plasmodium falciparum
which expresses different antigens during development. The P. falciparum
genome (23 Mb) encodes more than 5300 proteins, each a potential target of
protective immune responses. Because immune responses to Plasmodium are dispersed over a large
number of antigens an effective vaccine may have to include immunogenic epitopes of the genome highly conserved across different strains
and multi-stage life cycle. ProPred and
ProPred1 were used to predict genome/proteome promiscuous helper T lymphocytes
(HTL) and cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTL) epitopes in P. falciparum.
KEY-WORDS: Malaria, Plasmodium falciparum, genomics, proteomics,
