ABSTRACT

Javdan E, Fayazi J, Baigi Nasiri MT, Vakili ST., Polymorphism of growth differentiation factor gene and litter size in goats, Onl J Vet Res., 17 (6): 339-345, 2013. Polymorphism of exon 2 of growth differentiation factor (GDF9) gene was detected by PCR-SSCP in Najdi and Lori-Bakhtiari goats. 121 genomic DNA samples were used. DNA 295 bp fragment from exon 2 of GDF9 gene was amplified by PCR with specific primers and assayed by single stranded conformation polymorphism. AA, AB and BB genotypes were detected with frequencies of 0.37, 0.423 and 0.207 in Najdi and 0.586, 0.173 and 0.241 in Lori-Bakhtiari goats, respectively. Heterozygosity was 0.424 and 0.172 in Najdi and Lori-Bakhtiari goats.  The results suggested that genotypes AA, AB and BB detected in caprine GDF9 gene may show an association with allele B at the exon 2 and litter size but further studies are required to validate the polymorphisms.
