ABSTRACT
Hamedi S., Effect of dietary Lippia citridora on histo-morphometry of
jejunum in broilers, Onl J Vet Res., 21(2):62-66, 2017. Groups of ten
1 day chicks each were fed 45 days with 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5% Dried Lippia citridora leaf powder (LCLP) in a basal diet. Controls were fed the same
basal diet without LCLP. After sacrifice, 10 tissue 6μm-thick
transverse cross-sections samples from the middle jejunum of
each intestinal segment of each bird were stained with H&E. Length
and width of villi and depth of crypts, sub mucosal and muscular layer width
were measured by linear graticule under light microscope.
A dose dependent increase on villus height/crypt depth ratio in jejunum
occurred and 1 and 1.5% had most effect. The significant increase in villus
height was observed in ileum treated birds. Dietary LCLP may affect the
structure of jejunal mucosa of broiler chickens.
