Abstract

Shaterzadeh-Yazdi H, Memarian P, Baghaee-Moghadam E, Dehghanpisheh P., Subcutaneous lipoma with osseous metaplasia (osteolipoma) in a cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus). Onl J Vet Res., 21(2):58-61, 2017. A 5-year-old female cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus) with a unilaterally hanging wing, restricted movement and discomfort revealed a yellowish, solid mass measuring ~2Î2Î2 cm3 at the carpal region under the left wing. Surgical resection of the mass was recommended and the entire mass and surrounding necrotic soft tissue were removed for microscopy. The benign tumor consisted of well-differentiated adipocytes with foci of bony trabeculae and spicules. We diagnosed the tumor as a subcutaneous lipoma with osseous metapelasia (osteolipoma). This tumor has not been reported and may represent an unusual case of mesenchymal tumors with osseous metaplasia in a bird.

Key words: Subcutaneous lipoma, osseous metaplasia, osteolipoma, cockatiel (Nymphicus hollandicus)
