ABSTRACT
El-Sherif MW, El-Khamary AN and Abdel-Wahed RE., Lateral
versus dorsal recumbent laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy
and castration in horses, Onl J Vet Res., 21(8):523-530, 2017. Laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy and castration in groups of 10 young and
older horses each, in lateral or dorsal recumbent positions, were compared by
operation time, bleeding, organ puncture, feasibility, technique, and
postoperative complication published scoring methods. Feasibility was scored
0-3 based on number of ports and trocars, view, organ accessibility, handling
of tissues and number of hand instrument conflicts. Results showed that the
lateral recumbent position scored higher for restraint, positioning, time,
instrumentation, complications or cosmetic appearance for both procedures.
Key words: Equine, Cryptorchidectomy, Castration, Laparoscopy, Lateral
Position, Dorsal position.
