ABSTRACT

Nazifi S, Mosleh N, Alaeddini A, Eskandarzadeh N, Basaki M., Acute phase proteins in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) with ulcerative enteritis, Online J Vet Res., 15 (4): 395-403, 2011. Twenty-five 3-week-old Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) with ulcerative enteritis were assessed for serum concentrations of acute phase haptoglobin, serum amyloid A protein, and inflammatory mediators tumor necrosis factor-alpha, gamma interferon and total lipid and protein bound sialic acid. Compared with non-infected control birds, acute phase proteins and inflammatory mediator concentrations were higher (P < 0.05) in diseased birds. Total sialic acid appeared to be the most sensitive parameter.

Keywords: Ulcerative enteritis, Haptoglobin, Serum amyloid A, Tumor necrosis factor-alpha, Gamma interferon, Sialic acid, Japanese quail.
