GB, Nishibuchi M., Antibiotic
resistance and plasmid Vibrio para-hemolyticus from
cockles, Onl J Vet Res., 28(5): 294-301, 2024. We report incidence of V. para-hemolyticus in 100
cockles from Malaysian peninsula. By PCR we found 62 with Vibrio para-hemolyticus screened for tdh
and trh gene resistance 0.58 to 0.94 with 89% hosting
one to three 2.7 to 54kb sized plasmids. We tested carbenicillin,
ceftriaxone, cephalothin, chloramphenicol,
clindamycin, doxycycline, imipenem, nalidixic
acid, netilmicin, nitrofurantoine),
norfloxacin, oflaxacin,
rifampin, streptomycin, sulfamethixazole, teicoplanin and tobramycin finding 100% resistance to
nearly all except ceftriaxone (85%), imipenem (79%), netilmicin
(74%), nitrofurantoine (63%), doxycycline (60%), nalidixic acid (60%), chloramphenicol (24%) but norfloxacin only 2%. All strains of V. para-hemolyticus plasmids from cockles
showed multiple antibiotic resistance (MAR) but none
were predictive of antibiotic susceptibility.
Key Words: Vibrio para-hemolyticus, cockles, antibiotics, susceptibility.
