ABSTRACT

Alo OS, Abatan MO., Effects of lindane in Clarias gariepinus fish, Onl J Vet Res., 28(6): 358-364, 2024. Six live Clarias gariepinus fish were placed for 14 days in tank of water with 80 ppb  lindane and 6 controls in water without lindane. At day 14 blood was taken for hematology and biochemistry and fish decapitated for microscopy of liver and gills. Compared with controls (day 0) body weights declined (P < 0.05) ~14% in fish exposed to lindane,  red blood ~42%$ and white cells ~69%, and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) 93% whereas aspartate aminotransferase increased 38%. Microscopy revealed marked inflammatory cells infiltration. Findings suggest that lindane in low doses may induces toxic signs in Clarias gariepinus.
