ABSTRACT
Asli M, Mansoori FS, Sattari A.,
Histological description of the annular ligament in Rabbit fish eye (Siganus
javus), Onl J Vet Res.,
17(7):402-406, 2013. Rabbit fish is an economically valuable
teleost species which lives in shallow coastal waters. Two species of rabbit
fish have been recognized in the Southern Sea of Iran as Siganus Sutore
and Siganus Javus. The histology of the annular
ligament of the Siganus javus eye from eye sections of 12 healthy specimens
were studied under light microscope. The annular ligament appears as a crescent
shape structure situated between the scleral stroma anteriorly and the iris
posteriorly and has a vascularized, amorphous and granular matrix with fibers
of dense connective tissue with high glycogen content and melanin.
Key words: Siganus javus,
annular ligament, histology.
