ABSTRACT

Katsoulos PD, Dedousi A., Successful treatment of subacute enterotoxemia type D in a lamb, Onl J Vet Res., 15(6): 511-513, 2011. Treatment of a case of subacute enterotoxemia type D in a lamb is described. A 45 day old unvaccinated Chios lamb was admitted to our private practice because of neurological signs that appeared 2 hours previously. The lamb was in lateral recumbence, blind with bilateral dorsomedial strabismus, had opisthotonous and episodes of paddling movements when stimulated. Final diagnosis was based on clinical findings and the necropsy results of two recently dead animals of the herd with the same symptoms. The lamb was successfully treated with dexamethasone (0.5 mg/kg i.v.), thiamin (10 mg/kg i.m.) and enrofloxacin (5 mg/kg i.m.). The neurological signs were completely resolved within two hours after treatment. The administration of enrofloxacin was repeated the next two days at the same dose.
