SUMMARY
Saberi M, Kheirandish R, ShojaeepourS.,
Toxic epidermal necrolysis in a dog given enrofloxacin,
Onl J Vet Res., 18(7):
521-527, 2014. A
3-year-old intact female mixed breed dog presented with lethargy, anorexia,
vomiting and a history of
pseudopregnancy with severe
mastitis. The animal had been treated for pseudopregnancy
with cabergoline and furosemide. Complete blood count
showed leukocytosis, neutrophilia and septicemia. Samples
taken from purulent discharge of the
mammary glands showed positive bacteria. Enrofloxacin 25mg/kg in 2cc was given subcutaneously for 7 days. Recovery signs were
seen after 5 days but by day 7 pruritic dermatitis appeared which progressed to
pustular dermatitis around injection areas. Toxic epidermal necrolysis was
suspected by clinical examination, history, histopathology and response to
treatment.
Key words: toxic epidermal
necrolysis, enrofloxacin
