J Vet Res 14 (1):1-7,
2010. Ectopic
pregnancy is an embryonic implantation which occurs outside the uterine
cavity. Although this condition is well
described in humans, it is rarely diagnosed in animals. A 10 year-old crossbred German Shepherd which had had a normal
birth 5 months previously presented with respiratory
distress and breast tumor recurrence. Radiography revealed mineralized fetal
skeletons in the abdominal cavity. Three encapsulated masses attached to the omentum, with mummified fetuses were found and removed. No
evidence of rupture, adhesion to the serosal surface of the uterine or
congenital anatomical abnormalities was found but multicentric
uterine leiomyoma and
a mammary complex type carcinoma were observed.
Key words: dog, ectopic pregnancy, abdominal
implantation, leiomyoma, mammary carcinoma.
