Vet Res., (1) : 20-29,
2007. We report
bacteria and fungi isolated from the horizontal
external ear canals of 60 healthy dogs. Antibiotic susceptibility for bacteria was determined. Bacteria
were isolated from 62 (52%) and fungi from 19 (16%) ear canals, respectively. Staphylococci 36 (59%), Bacillus spp. 19 (31%), Streptococci 7 (11%), Scopulariopsis spp. 4 (21%), Aspergillus spp. 2 (11%), Cladosporium
spp. 2 (11%), Alternaria spp. 1 (5%), Penicillium spp. 1 (5%) and yeasts 9 (47%) were
isolated. All isolates
were gram positive, 58.06% staphylococci, 11.29% streptococci and 30.65%
bacilli. Susceptibility
testing indicated that bacteria were most susceptible to tylosin
and least to bacitracin.
