ABSTRACT
Naghashyan HZ.Khachatrian AR., Dust mites and respiratory disease in
calves, Onl J Vet Res., 5:1-2, 2001. Dust mites have been implicated in respiratory
diseases of young calves in Armenia. Dust samples revealed Pyroglyphidae,
Acaridae, Glycyphagidae (G. Destructor), Cheyletidae and Laelaptidae
spp. Most numerous was Dermatophagoides
pteronyssinus (~400/g of dust). Dust feed pan
samples contained Acarus and Troapeanria
spp. Spider webs contained Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (~100/g of dust). Eulaelaps stabularis (Laelaptidae) known
to inhabit rodent dens and straw bales and the saprophyte Macrochelidae
spp was
also isolated. The purpose of this report is to describe dust mites isolated
from farms in Armenia with high incidence of respiratory disease.
KEY WORDS: Mites,
respiratory disease, calves.
