2D ultrasonography color doppler graft repair of radial
bone with ear cartilage in Markhoz goats,

bone with ear cartilage in Markhoz goats, Onl J Vet Res., 20(10):646-652, 2016. A 3X3cm ear
cartilage graft was used to fill the gap after fracture fixation in a group of
4 adult Markhoz goats weighing 35-40 Kg. Four similar
control goats
had the fractured site fixed only with finger bone plate of 4 screws. Two dimensional (2D) color Doppler ultrasonography was
performed before and 15, 30 and 60 days after radial fracture to evaluate local
reaction, vascularization and callus formation. Bone repair callus formation in
controls was incomplete by ~60 days whereas in those grafted with ear cartilage
was almost complete by ~30 days. Color Doppler showed protrusion of newly
formed blood vascular network by ~30 days in controls and ~15 days in grafted
goats. The findings suggest that ear cartilage may be suitable alternative bone
filler after fracture.
