ABSTRACT
Salmani S, Mosallanejad B,
Gooraninejad S, Rezaie A, Tabatabaei SR, Imani-Rastabi H., Effect
of Stanozolol and Nandrolone
Decanoate on quantity and quality of sperm in dogs, Onl J Vet Res., 21(11):746-750,
2017. To authors
knowledge, effects of high doses of anabolic-androgenic steroids on sperm in
dogs is not known. We describe effects of high dose Stanozolol (S) and Nandrolone Decanoate (ND) on sperm in 16 dogs. One
group was given Stanozolol (SG) and another Nandrolone Decanoate (NDG). One testicle was surgically removed to assess
side effects of S and ND on the other testicle. The second testicle was omitted
on day 28 and 42 in 4 dogs in each group. Number of total and dead, broken heads and tails, two tailed and head, ancillary,
fast and moderate moving, spinning and agglutinated sperms were determined. Data was analyzed by one way variance analysis and Duncan’s
test using SPSS 21. Results indicated that SG affected quantity and NDG, sperm quality (p<0.05). The findings suggest that high doses of Stanozol and Nandrolone may induce infertility in dogs.
