A survey of enterobacteria in dairy products.

We report survey for Enterobacteria in 100 raw milk and 50 yoghurt and ice cream samples from Kafr El Sheikh, Egypt. In raw milk we found 84% with 1.02x106 + 1.98x105 cfu/g, in yoghurt 32-40% with 6.95x103 + 4x103 and 1.57x103 + 8.95x102 cfu/g and ice cream 20-64% with 1.02x104 + 4.13x103 and 1.4x103 + 8.26x102 cfu/g. Most frequent in raw milk were Hafnia alive ~31% and Serratia liquefaciens 25%, in yogurt E. coil in 44.44% and in ice cream Serratia marcescens 57.14%. We find that raw dairy products from these localities may be unsafe and suggesting fecal contamination by enteric pathogens.
