ABSTRACT
Kanani HG, Arabi H, Shahsavani D, Harsij M., Effect
of Spirulina platensis on blood parameters and growth of Cyprinus
carpio exposed to sublethal
cyanide, Onl J Vet Res.,
19(2): 80-89, 2015. Effects of
dietary Spirulina platensis on static
chronic cyanide toxicity (KCN) test in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)
are described. Spirulina platensis kept red blood cell count, corpuscular
haemoglobin, and
haematocrit within control values compared with fish not given spirulina but exposed to cyanide. There
were no differences in haematocrit, Mean corpuscular haemoglobin or haemoglobin
values between any group. Spirulina diets maintained growth parameters similar to controls.
Results suggest that Spirulina platensis in diet may protect some blood parameters
against cyanide toxicity.
