Disposition of carbamazepine in rabbits

ABSTRACT

 

Rukhadze M, Bezarashvili G, Alexishvili M, Fischer N, Sebiskveradze M, Okujava N Disposition of carbamazepine in rabbits. Onl J Vet Res., 28 (10): 702-715, 2024. Single oral 100 and 200 mg carbamazine (CBZ) were gavaged in rabbits with 12 ear blood samples taken 0 to 10h. Serum CBZ was determined by microcolumn high-performance liquid chromatograph UV detector at 210 nm. In 1st series, CBZ maxima occurred at 1.5 and 4.0 hours, whereas in 2nd dose, one peak at 1.45 hours. After oral 200mg CBZ we found clearance kel 3.10 and  absorption 20.9 μg·ml-1 h-1 . We found that absorption and elimination of CBZ were best determined by successive substitution correlation and regression analysis. Increased dosages altered Ka and Kel considerably suggesting a step-wise absorption of carbamazepine.
