ABSTRACT
Mohammad AH, Abdollah D,
Iman M., Trichophyton mentagrophytes dermatophytosis in a caracal (Caracal caracal), Onl J Vet Res., 19(5): 344-348, 2015. A male three years old caracal presented with alopecia, erythema, erosion, crusting and scaling around the head, neck and
front limbs. Under anaesthesia, skin scrapings, hairs, impression smears and
blood were taken for fungal culture and standard tests. Neither parasites nor
abnormal bacteria were observed. Culture and hair perforation tests revealed the presence of Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
The animal was managed with diet,
environment and 60mg/kg daily griseofulvin.
Improvement was noted after 3 weeks of therapy. Treatment was continued for 5
weeks and a second sampling proved negative.
