ABSTRACT
Namavari M, Namazi F, Oryan
A, Mansourian M, Rahimian
A, Tahamtan Y., In vitro cultivation of Besnoitia
caprae, Online J Vet Res, 16 (2):72-80, 2012. Different cell
lines were inoculated with tachyzoites of Besnoitia caprae (BC-Pars
isolate)
obtained from mice including Vero, MDCK and BHK21. The best growth of tachyzoites was
observed in BHK21. No replication of parasites was seen on MDCK and Vero
cell. Mice and chicken embryonated eggs were inoculated with tachyzoites
obtained from BHK21 cell culture. Skin samples from the mice and
chicken infected with tachyzoites of BC-Pars were PCR
positive. Histopathological sections of their skin
revealed presence of necrosis and mononuclear cells infiltration. To authors knowledge, this is the first report of successful in
vitro B. caprae cell culture. The impact of B.
caprae developing in cell culture is very
significant and will facilitate many aspects of Besnoitia
research.
Key words: Besnoitia caprae; Cell culture;
BALB/c mice; Chicken emryonated
eggs.
