ABSTRACT
Tajik J, Nazifi S, Eskandarzadeh N, Sepehrimanesh M,
Basaki M., Reference serum haptoglobin,
amyloid A, and sialic acid values in water buffalo (Bubalus
bubalis). Onl J Vet Res.,
15 (3): 270-276, 2011. Serum
haptoglobin (Hp), serum amyloid
A (SAA), total sialic acid (TSA), Lipid-bound sialic acid (LBSA) and
Protein-bound sialic acid (PBSA) concentrations were determined from 100
clinically healthy water buffaloes. The mean serum concentrations of Hp, SAA, TSA, LBSA and PBSA were 0.094±0.002
g/l, 3.3±0.18
μg/ml, 2.53±0.006 mmol/l,
1.2±0.005
mmol/l and 1.33±0.007 mmol/l,
respectively. There was no difference between gender or
age in any value or any correlation between age and the measured proteins and
TSA or its lipid- and protein bound components with Hp
and SAA. In contrast, changes in TSA correlated with PBSA (r=0.695, P<0.001)
and LBSA with PBSA (r=0.58, P<0.001).
