A., Prevalence of bovine immunodeficiency virus and effect on dairy cattle
production in Iran, Onl J Vet Res., 20(3):167-176, 2016. We describe effect of bovine immunodeficiency virus (BIV)
on dairy cattle in small (n=490) and industrial (n=1800) farms in Iran. BIV was
detected by ELISA and nested PCR. Prevalence of
BVI was 4.5% in small and 0.83% in industrial farms. During monitoring there were no significant differences in milk yield,
days in milk or days open between BIV-infected and
control animals. Infected cows
had less (p<0.025) somatic cell
count than non-infected cows (p<0.025).
Key words: BIV,
prevalence,
health indices, raw data supplied.
