ABSTRACT

Prasad Beda D,  Sastry Vedulab G, Rayalu DaddamJ., Synthesis and anti-mycobacterial activity of multicomponent Biginelli reaction catalysed by surfactant in aqueous media, Onl J Vet Res., 19(3): 190-211, 2015. A method for the synthesis of 4-aryl-3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-ones/thione (Biginelli reaction) from 1,3-dicarbonyl compound, substituted aldehydes and urea/thiourea in the presence of  sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) novel catalyst under two experimental conditions is described. Using these methods title compounds were produced in high yield. Synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial, antifungal and anti-tubercular activity. 5-(ethoxycarbonyl)-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-6-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione and 5-(carboethoxy)-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-6-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-one, showed excellent activity due to chlorine at C-4 of the phenyl ring.

Keywords:  Pyrimidine; sodium dodecyl sulphate; antimicrobial; antitubercular activity
